After joining IAF, I really feel that everyone can express themselves in an open and safe environment. It deepens the understanding of what we discuss. I do believe that through effective facilitation, different stakeholders can voice out when we talk about various social issues in Hong Kong. It also leads to co-create a much more creative solution.

Hong Kong is a very diversified fast-paced city. We love our city, but we are also very focused on achieving our own goals. Creating meaningful dialogue becomes the glue that holds us together. It allows us to run towards our goals while, at the same time, direct our goals toward the vision of better Hong Kong.

Individual differences are formed by how individuals view the world, their perspectives and strategies. Our differences create tension and conflict which can lead to issues of dominance and having to compromise when it comes to decision-making. Meaningful dialogue helps everyone understand others’ differences and help improve the group’s dynamics. It transforms the issues of tension and separation, builds up a sense of togetherness and strengthens motivation to work together towards the same goal, which leads to win-win situation. The key for effective communication is to create meaningful dialogue as it provides the proper tools and acts as a guide to achieve this goal.

Meaningful dialogues contain people's ideas, authenticity, curiosity, emotions, opinions and perspectives, which can deepen communication and relationships. I strongly believe that continuous meaningful dialogues can make a great impact in Hong Kong. It helps to increase understanding, build trust, facilitate sharing of knowledge, and connect ideas. It also encourages active learning and multidimensional perspectives, which are very important contributors to achieving progress together!

The world is always changing and life comes with many challenges! We need to bring in everyone’s brain power to help us to build a more diverse society, and equip ourselves to face the unpredictable future confidently. Creating meaningful dialogue allows us to understand different perspectives and reasonings, so that we can collaborate wholeheartedly towards the same goal. I hope to see Hong Kong achieve a better future through these changes.

Professionalization is present in corporate and cross-sector organizations. There are many stakeholders in every field. When it comes to complicated issues, no one can really understand the whole concept and figure out the most effective solutions. Thus, creating meaningful and effective dialogue is very important because it acts as the missing puzzle piece to work comprehensively when dealing with issues.

To be meaningful also means to be effective and constructive. When a bridge of communication has been built, when we no longer have a barrier of communication and therefore we will have a better understanding of each other. We will not take for granted our connections, there is no premise of effective dialogue. As a result, we no longer focus on“I” as it has now turned into“us”; we now have the same focus and common goal towards the end. It is the foundation for the dialogue itself. To improve our way of thinking, we must master the methods of communication. IAF has various tools, the most courageous people and the most open-minded talents. Together, we can improve Hong Kong as long as we continue to persevere. As the saying goes, we should keep our little fire in heart and gather the warmth and lightness.
